Just this week we have been able to demonstrate and setup 4 agencies with Autel Evo II Dual aircraft systems with our Airworx Go-Command kit. Oddly, not a single one of those agencies planned to buy that platform due to cost. Of course, seeing is believing, and anyone can see the incredible quality in the Autel Evo II Dual Flir Boson sensor with 48mp camera. Even during daylight hours - when normally demonstrating and utilizing thermal sensors for human targets is difficult - the Autel Evo II Dual is nothing short of impressive. Human and animal targets, depending on relative temperatures around the target, are still clearly discernable in most scenarios.
Albeit the cost of the Autel Evo Dual system is very affordable, considering it's technology and capabilities, it's about 2-3 times more costly than the other common thermal compact UAS systems today. Most agencies are still leaning on what's popular and inline with their mindset of "affordable". This sometimes has to do with the funding or budgets that agencies have tried for one, two or even three years to attain. And once the money is available, the tech is advanced and more options - better options - are more costly and much more valuable.
I love showing this image below, courtesy of autelrobotics.com, that highlights the stark difference in the 640 px Flir Boson sensor of the Autel Evo II units, versus that of the 160 px Flir Lepton core found in the very common DJI Mavic 2 Enterprise Dual and Parrot Anafi Thermal.
The 640 px Flir Boson sensor is over seventeen times better in terms of pixel density. This image above shows that comparison.
As much as we talk about the phenomenal quality of the thermal sensor, we miss another key talking point. Flight time per flight battery. This aircraft kills it - adding 5-8 minutes of usable flight / mission time per battery over its next competitor. This is true, in-the-field comparison experience. We average 32-34 minutes of true flight mission time with this system.
The success of any mission depends on the quality of the tools and resources used.
We recommend seeing a true, real-life demonstration of several common platforms before making your purchase decision. We are the first to say "anything is better than nothing", but there is always opportunity to step back and potentially look for funding to step up and into a tool that will serve you better today and further into the future.
If you're trying to figure out what to budget for your drone program, we can help. Reach out to us via text, call or email. Our staff of currently active public safety professionals are available to give you first-hand experience of the platforms and products we sell. We don't just sell them. We use them daily in our own public safety agencies where we manage UAS programs, or fly missions.
